SAO PAULO — Canada's Bombardier has won a 22 million dollar contract for signaling systems for an electric railway system in the Peruvian capital, a company official told AFP Thursday. The contract through Bombardier Transportation's unit in Brazil calls for traffic control systems for Lima's Line 1 railway of 21.4 kilometers (13.3 miles)."This technology can increase the presence of Bombardier in the region, which is now a strategic objective for us," said the president of Bombardier Transportation in Brazil, Carlos Levy, in a statement. The contract calls for safety systems, hardware for crossings and a traffic management system, said the Canadian consortium. The systems will be produced by Bombardier in Brazil with the support of Bombardier Spain. Formed in 2001, the Brazilian unit focuses on providing products and rail systems, but does not manufacture trains. Copyright © 2010 AFP. All rights reserved. More »
