LONDON — Engine maker Rolls-Royce said Monday it and its partners had won orders worth nearly 589 million pounds at the first day of the Farnborough International Airshow. The company said it secured an order worth 650 million dollars at catalogue prices from Russian carrier Aeroflot to supply engines for 11 Airbus A330-300 planes, beating out competition from US rivals Pratt & Whitney and GE.Another order from Yemenia airlines for engines to power 10 Airbus A320 short-haul planes was worth 65 million pounds, it said. The engines for the Yemeni carrier will be supplied by the International Aero Engines (IAE) consortium, in which Rolls-Royce partners Pratt & Whitney, JAEC of Japan and Germany's MTU Aero Engines.Rolls-Royce said meanwhile that China Southern Airlines, one of the largest Chinese carriers, had ordered IAE engines worth 85 million pounds for 20 A320s.
