NEW YORK — Major League Baseball is starting random blood testing for human growth hormone in the minor leagues.The minor league testing is the first of its kind in North American sports.But the league did not say when or if testing would eventually be applied to MLB teams such as the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers.The blood testing is limited to minor league players because they are not members of the players' association, which means the testing is not subject to collective bargaining.Commissioner Bud Selig said Thursday that blood testing would become part of its so called Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Programme.
