YAOUNDE — Former Spain coach Javier Clemente has been named as Cameroon coach working alongside former international stars Omam Biyick and Jacques Songo'o as his assistants, Sports Minister Michel Zoah said on Tuesday."Javier Clemente has been chosen by the authorities as coach of the Cameroon Lions," a statement read.Songo'o will act as goalkeeping coach.Clemente will arrive in the country on August 28 "to sign his contract," the statement continued.Although no mention was made of the duration of his deal, media reported Clemente would take charge through to the 2012 African Cup of Nations. He takes over from Frenchman Paul Le Guen, who stepped down after Cameroon lost all of their World Cup finals group matches.Former Athletic Bilbao player Clemente, 59, coached Spain from 1992 to 1998 and also had a spell in charge of Serbia in 2006-2007.He has coached several clubs, including Athletic Bilbao, Espanyol, Atletico Madrid, Betis and Marseille but was unable to save Valladolid from the drop last season after arriving only weeks before the end of the campaign.Cameroon have turned to a man who has a reputation as being a disciplinarian as they seek to put their World Cup disappointment behind them amid reports that Le Guen did not have the full support of some of the squad.
