SAN JOSE MINE, Chile — It seems Chile's trapped miners aren't the only ones who have been transformed by their ordeal. With just a few tantalizing hours to go before the first reunions, the wives and girlfriends of the 33 miners were undergoing makeovers and preparing sexy "surprises" for their men after 10 long weeks apart.Energized by hope, the women have redone their hair, received manicures and picked out racy lingerie as they seek to rekindle romance once the miners are finally brought to the surface, beginning late Tuesday, after an extraordinary 68 days underground."I have never done much with my hair, but now I got some blonde highlights and shortened it," said 26-year-old Cristina Nunez, who was a bundle of nerves as she awaited her partner Claudio Yanez's rescue."I have given myself a complete makeover," she said, tossing her coiffured hair to one side, before confiding that she also planned to don "a lacy red little baby doll outfit" that had been given to her for the first post-rescue reunion with her man."I can not wait to hug, to kiss," a smiling Nunez said, tearing up as she discussed her partner of 10 years and their two children, aged eight and one.Like other companions of "the 33," Nunez had a crystal-clear vision of what she and Yanez will do once they come down off their high: "fix a date at the civil registry and get married," she said.If fate obliges, they'll pursue another longheld dream: buying a small house together.But first, she and others must come face to face with the men that have missed them since they were trapped nearly a kilometer underground when the San Jose Mine collapsed on August 5.Liliana Ramirez, wife of Mario Gomez who at age 63 is the dean of the miners, said she'll be prepared for the emotional encounter.
