BANGKOK — Tamarine Tanasugarn is seen as one of Thailand's best medal hopes at this month's Asian Games and the veteran star is determined to win gold after two runner-up finishes. The 33-year-old, one of the oldest players on the WTA Tour, comes into the tournament in good form after winning the Japan Open last month. The Guangzhou event will be her fourth Asian Games and after finishing runner-up at the 1998 and 2002 Asiad, she plans to go one better in China."Of course, I want to win a gold medal in what is likely to be my last Asian Games," she told the Bangkok Post."But it will not be easy for me because there are a lot of good Asian players."As well as Tamarine, China's Li Na will be playing, as will Indian star Sania Mirza, Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan and Akgul Amanmuradova from Uzbekistan."Asian women have made fast progress so the Asian Games will be tough," said Tamarine, who is expected to take part in the team, singles and doubles or mixed doubles events. The Asian Games run from November 12-27 with 12,000 athletes from 45 nations and territories competing in 42 sports.
