NEWARK, New Jersey — Derek Roy and Thomas Vanek has scored shoot-out goals as Buffalo made Lindy Ruff's 1,000th game as the Sabres' coach a 5-4 victory over New Jersey.Roy, Jason Pominville, Tyler Myers and Tyler Ennis scored for the Sabres, who were tied 4-4 with the Devils after overtime.Backup goaltender Jhonas Enroth made 28 saves to help Buffalo keep the Devils' without a victory at home this season.Jason Arnott scored twice and David Clarkson and Jamie Langenbrunner added goals for New Jersey, but the Devils' frustration was exemplified by the shoot-out performance of 100 million-dollar free agent Ilya Kovalchuk, who failed to get a shot as the puck slipped off his stick on their fourth and final attempt.Buffalo won the shoot-out 2-1.Ruff, 50, is the 18th NHL coach to reach 1,000 games, and the third to do it with one team.According to the Sabres, Ruff is the 88th person to lead the same professional major sports team for 1,000 games. There have been seven NBA coaches and 78 major league baseball managers who have accomplished the feat, the team said.
