BERLIN — Former world number one ski jumper Martin Schmitt said Friday he expects to retire before the 2014 winter Olympic Games in Sochi.A four-time world champion, Schmitt's biggest result in most recent years was the Olympic silver medal he won with his German team at Vancouver in 2010.Now 33, the German told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung said: "I'm not planning to go until Sochi. I will continue competing next season and afterwards I will see."A decade ago Schmitt was arguably the biggest name in the sport. He won two overall World Cup titles in 1999 and 2000, an Olympic gold medal and four world titles.However, Schmitt only narrowly obtained his selection recently for the upcoming world championships in Oslo.
